1!!!

I couldn’t believe that he is turning 1 today (well, not quite , since it’s not 11.11 in the US yet, but I’m so excited!)
It seems just yesterday that he was this little bundle in my arms, and in my friend’s words “so helpless”. Now he is such a big boy that he could even walk on his own (for ~7,8 steps). He used to sleep all day long and I have to wake him up to feed him, now he’s so energetic that it’s not a easy task to put him to sleep. Looking at his pictures (I have taken so many of them, and I’m so glad I did), I couldn’t help but feeling it’s so overwhelmingly incrediable. I know every parent says this but I really didn’t think so until now—life is such a miracle.
We don’t have the “daycare” type of place to send babies so small (and even if we do, I don’t know if I’m strong enough to send him), so he stays at home, and we have a 3-member team taking care of him—my in-laws+ my mom. My dad couldn’t join because he’s not retired yet and has to go to work. I know this must seem fairly strange to some of my friends, but it’s a pretty common thing here, culturaly and practically. Me and my hubby are both only-child and this is (at least temporarily) the only grandbaby the four grandparents have, and nobody want’s to be left out. Besides, it’s so much work to take care of him now, since you have to feed him, bathe him, and most importantly—play with him. My in-laws didn’t have time for themselves before my mom “came to rescue” :p. I’m pretty happy with the arrangement since there’s no match to the quality of care the grands can provide (thank goodness me and my hubby both have such wonderful parents), only that we haven’t bought our own place yet so they are staying in my in-laws’ nice, big apartment and we only get to see them on weekends. We are working on getting our own place and get all of us together (I guess this seems strange again, but it’s fairly tradiditonal to do so, and the good news is, we all get along well.)
Speaking of getting our own place, I have to complain about how slowly things are moving, it’s almost depressing. I spent most of the past couple months trying to get our “Hukou” (a greencard type of thing) transfered to here (our Hukou is in our places of birth, we need it transfered if we relocate, and it’s NOT easy….), and is not getting anywhere. That’s also why I haven’t updated in such a long time, I’ll try to keep up and do better in the future.
Fresh data, hot from the examination room:
Height: 81 cm (~1.6X of birth height)
Gross weight: 12.8 kg (~4X of birth weight)

Wow, a whole year already. Ahh, bureaucracies around the world are all the same: frustrating, huh?
I can certainly see the advantage of all the grandparents around to take care of the baby. It’s got to be nice to have the help, and the baby always with people you can trust.
Also, you should know that by my calculations, he has a doubling time of 6 months, and should therefore weigh ~3.3 million kg by his 10th birthday, which is truly amazing.

Happy belated birthday!

And he’s driving already too…
It’s great that you have so many helpers at home. I grew up similarly, living with three grandparents plus my parents. It was nice, there was always at least one person who could be disturbed
Good luck with the paperwork!…which reminds me, I have some of that as well.
