现在在公司上班其实也挺好玩的，但我还只是被分配着干些修修补补的活，并不比维护我们的一亩二分地难多少。不知道接下去会是什么样的任务。

住宿问题暂时解决了，可以搬去学校的另一片住宿区，能缩短几分钟的路程。车呢，还没看，能拖就拖吧…

注：由于Blog的特殊性，搜索引擎对rss/feed里的内容应该有极大的偏好，所以可能有较大的比重。

恩，回到说为什么要写“名字”。今天扫了一眼幾米的履历表，看见了不少好玩的名字。想必 幾米 还是挺花了心思来构思这些名字，那些人的姓名和他们的职业还都是密切相联的。下面就来举几个例子：

现在回到我的名字，那就是最近牌友们(此处指八十分、升级、拖拉机)都已经十分习惯我几乎把把都抢先亮主的作风了，还纷纷想改名和我一样
另附：最近看到日车Corolla被翻译成 靠骡拉，十分高兴 ~~

red lights (zz Hong Deng Qu)

went with two college mates to see the red light district in singapore last night - unless they intentionly led me to the wrong area, the place had definite room for improvement, e.g. the followings -

1. set up landmarks to signal travellers/first-timers that they are in the right zone

2. move the mega-bite food places to somewhere else because it was very confusing

3. complete the the value chain by adding e.g. clinics, bars and massage places, etc

4. place more cash machines to faciliate purchase

also it maybe helpful to remove the catholic churchs and buddist temple, which were very wierd in the first place

早上实验室的另一个兄弟说，另一间实验室里不仅开着空调，连暖气也还开着。我问他那间实验室不是得恒温20度么？。他说对呀，空调大得硬是把温度降下来了呗。先不说美国人不知节省能源，他们怎么连做事都不统一呢，既然要同时开空调和暖气，那就什么地方都一起开吗。那样像我这样挨着暖气坐的人就不会再埋怨开着空调。为了不再埋怨社会，同时也是挨着窗户坐的我，打开了窗户，让炎炎夏日来拯救我吧：）

今天这场比赛的确也太富戏剧性了，三张红牌一个乌龙，随便一放就可以成为头条。还有球评也不时的给裁判变换着正负评价，刚罚下以肘击人的徳罗西 时，拼命给裁判说好话，当把美国队的兄弟罚下一个又一个的时候，就一下子触发情绪了（不过美国的第一张红牌的确给得有些狠），说这样的铲球还不是整天都这样见了；用”a colorful match”一词来讽刺裁判不是给红牌就是给黄牌；还说两队球员好不容易辛辛苦苦拼了命的挤进世界杯到这儿来打场比赛，而裁判就是负责把一个个人给kicking out。不过球评还是有点理性的，当美国队射门入球，记分牌都挂了下2：1但又被裁判吹越位的时候，美国队教练都怒的用F word了，而球评倒是认真的给大家讲解起越位的规则，当然这次越位也有些特殊：没有传接球，但处于越位位置的球员挡住了守门员视线，便利了射门。然后还打出了一个告示牌，说是世界杯历史上只剩9人的球队还从未入过球，可惜美国队也未能改写历史

又看了会新浪足球，看见捷克队的兄弟们:内德维德，巴罗什，罗西基，波博斯基，扬-科勒，都是当年实况的得力战将呀，加油，好好踢呀！

这儿还有一个不错的乌龙球集锦，是来自google，joga。

还从没好好的穿过西装，或者说这次是要自己花钱买，才好好的注意西装穿在身上是啥样，还顺带学了些买西服的讲究。先是挑了件Ralph Lauren 的， 我觉得穿得挺好看，挺合身（size 39R， 裤子33w）。可是先是觉得袖子不够长，手若是举起来，衬衣袖子露出一大截；就算是手垂着，也能看见衬衣袖。然后营业员大叔就教我说，其实能看见衬衣袖很 正常，露出多少全凭个人喜好（我现在才注意到图中的model其实也是露着衬衣袖口的），不过也可以帮我放长一点袖子（大概放3／4英寸）。虽然这只是试 穿的第一件，而且价格也不菲（哪怕打了对折），我还是有些心动想买了，尤其scorp又一直在旁鼓动。可突然，scorp发现当两颗扣子都扣好的时候 （我觉得不扣的时候真的很好，图中的model其实也只扣了一颗:p），衣服有些向前鼓。然后营业员大叔也觉得其实有些大，应该是扣好以后，大概只能放进 一个拳头，可好像还不止。可是38R对我来说就太短了：西服底部应该差不多是手握拳垂下的位置，38R却大概只有在手腕附近。然而，38L没有存货，只好打消了买这个牌子的念头。

然后，就看了Alfani。这套显得更合身（虽然也是39R），扣上扣后，我觉得人好瘦削，都不敢认了，差点也不敢买这套衣服（所以估计图里的model也只敢坐着了）。不过毕竟再没别的可挑剔了，又加上营业员大叔极其好的服务态度，就拍板买下了。就等十天后，锁完裤边取西装了:)

This was started by a former PostDoc, who guided me in doing the computational work. But somehow he was trapped somewhere and left the work to me. With some defects, the work was done before the last summer. And we had even written outlines and prepared figures and tables for a paper back then. However, then boss was out for summer vacation, while the whole pile of work was put aside. When boss returned back, he was occupied by some other things (like on collaborated projects) and he pointed out the defect of the project again so as to avoid the paper.

I was a little reluctant to improve the work even though I had some clue then, since I felt though the result wasn’t perfect, it was informative to show; what’s more, I wasn’t so sure whether I could get better results if I turned to some other methods. So the project was temporarily frozen there for a while…

Later, there were some other papers coming out on this subject, indicating certain method as I thought did help improve the result. I then started to redo this project and finished it in March this year. Happily persuading my boss to prepare a paper on computational work alone, I began to write a draft (see writing paper) this time in addition to the outline, figures and tables. However, even though I had got a revision done, my boss changed his mind to prepare a paper only on my work but planned to add someother’s work in order to make it a better (high impactor) paper.

Sounds fair enough. But not to me… Anyway, I worked with the other guy on the outline, figures, tables, and a draft. It was at least a month ago. But my boss was devoting his time totally to his NIH proposal, the work was put aside again. Last week, the NIH proposal was almost finished by my boss (I respected my boss very much, even at his 70, he was so still hard-working and ambitious in planning to do studies on his untouched areas; but I just felt uncomfortable with his frequently changable ideas). So was today: my boss said he started to think about the project again but he wanted to include some previous work with updates as well…

Right now, it’s summer vacation time again and my boss is going to take off 6-8 weeks since July. But there will be little time for my boss this month, as you know, the Jury Duty he has (fortunately, it is postponed till Wed. so I could meet my boss today), and there will be a conference. So it seems we couldn’t get the paper done again. And I need to do a little more work on it…….

Believe it or not, I received this same kind of call years ago, which just sounds ridiculous to me. As I remember, the terms on the summon letter are very cruel to the people who are not going to take the reponsibility. But you can imagine, I would never attend a court for such a thing and what’s more, it would take a week!  So what I did is, replying the mail by claiming that I have a disability — (with a note: unable to understand English:p)

I still feel weird now having such kind of duty. And, I am just alien resident and there are so many Americans out there. But I was picked up then, why not by lottery:)?

然后，我现在的linux桌面做好看了，可是firefox不可以去的地方更多了，连文学城都上不了，幸好还能上pubs.acs.org，都快成学习机了（PS, scorp想玩robots也不行，我更是修复不了，索性给删了:D）。

Fedora Core 5出来了，决心要好好的再升级一次系统，并且要明白自己对这台电脑都干了啥，不过这个艰巨的任务就等给完3rd year seminar吧：）
